Ash Bee has a diverse range of performance experience and choreographic interests that spans musical theatre, jazz, contemporary dance and performance art. Currently performing in Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom The Musical (Global Creatures) in the role of Vanessa Cronin, her other performance credits include the Australian cast of Legally Blonde The Musical (Kate/Chutney & Understudy Margot, Gordon Frost Organisation), vocal entertainment for Acer Arena’s Dolly Parton (2011) and Leonard Cohen (2010) concerts, Sydney Entertainment Centre’s P!NK Concerts (2009) and The Motown Event (2010) and Liz Lea & Co.’s contemporary dance theatre production, 120 Birds (2012). Having completed a BA in Dance in 2008, Ash has gone on to choreograph for Siren Theatre Company (The Violent Outburst That Drew Me To You ’13 & ’14, The Lunch Hour ’12), Pinchgut Opera (Castor + Pollux ’12), and Shakespeare on the Green (A Midsummer Night’s Dream ’09, A Winter’s Tale ’12). Ash Bee is also the founder of Blonde Ambition; a contemporary dance trio who aim to deconstruct and investigate the notion of a feminine ideal in their work. The ‘Blondes’ explore a physical vocabulary that references quotidian gesture, contemporary dance, burlesque and grotesque theatricality. Blonde Ambition’s credits include a Responsive Residency with Critical Path (2011), Most Outstanding Choreography Award (Short, Sweet + Dance 2009), DANscienCE Festival at the CSIRO (2013), You Are Here Festival (2011), Sydney Fringe Festival (2010), and her original short work was selected for remount in the touring season of Shorter + Sweeter Dance (2011).
